Sam Franklins - Final Fan Fiction

A Life Of Decency

Written By Sam Franklin

He opened his eyes and got out of bed. Walking out of his hole he slept in and up to the doozers building where he pulled off a piece to eat. Charles who renamed himself Charles looked around Fraggle Rock and gave a sigh. He couldn’t slit his wrist, there was only fluff inside. Perhaps he should finally go to the Gorgs and get thumped.

Everyone loved this place and many in the human world would kill to be there instead of fighting the wars outside of it. Yet to Tooby, the way of speaking was obscene, the dream sharing was ridiculous and everyday they would sing the same bloody theme song

Dance your cares away
Worry's for another day.

Let the music.

Down at fraggle rock.

                                                                 Work your cares away.
Dancings for anotehr day.

Let the fraggles play.
We're Gobo, Mokey, Wembley, Goober, Red.

Dance your cares away.
Worry's for another day.

Let the music play.

Down at fraggle rock.

Down at fraggle rock.

Down at fraggle rock

Once after the theme song Goober ran up to Charles

''Hey Tooby…..I mean Charles hahahahah!''

''Greetings Goober, how is one on another day in the rock of Fraggle''

''Haha your funny. Are you going to come dream share with us later?''

''My dreams are too decent for the common mind here.''

''Isn't today a wonderful day!''

''Depends on how you look at it, we are all alive but still made of cloth and have colourful hair that I cannot change into a decent one''

These conversations did not happen often as very few people bothered to talk with him. This was jarring for Charles as he did not like the conversations; but hated being so alone.

He did not get the attention that the main characters had but he did not desire it. He craved a life in the human world and to work in it; perhaps as a carpenter, a man in an office or interpreter for the United Nations.

Because of this every week he would keep himself afloat by walking to the hole that connected the Fraggle world to the human one and listen to the man speak with his dog Sprocket. This is where Goober’s Uncle matt sent postcards about his adventures in the human world since the very first episode. Charles would read them over and over after Goober to learn more and more.

Charles favourite word was ''decent''. He wanted a decent human wife, life, decent food, decent clothes, decent holidays, decent sex, decent meals while telling decent jokes.

For reasons that were unclear. Charles woke up one day with the courage to make his dreams come true. To run out of the hole and for his life or talk to the man outside with his dog and ask him for help.

Charles packed his bag, grabbed some Doozer building and ran out of the hole before anyone could see him and start fucking singing. He ran for the hole to find Sprocket sleeping with the man on the chair. Charles pulled on the mans pants but it did not work. So he climbed up his pants and reached into his wallet where he found a fifty dollar bill.

Charles ran out of the house and kept going till he found a bus stop. He waited patiently.
What would the bus driver think if he saw him? Would he treat him normally? Perhaps he would not even see him.

The bus arrived and the door opened. Charles looked at the bus driver. His muppet eyes went behind his head in awe.

''Do you wish to ride this bus, sir''

''Yes, please''

Charles climbed up the steps of the bus. And put his money forth. The bus driver looked down at the money and smiled

''You can ride the bus for free sir. I'm not going to bother breaking that up''

Charles smiled and climbed up the steps getting his stitched hands dirty. He walked down the aisle of the bus and looked for a seat. They were all taken except for one. Charles approached it and looked up to see a gentleman sitting down with a newspaper.

''Excuse me sir, could you lift me up onto the seat. I am afraid I am too small to get up myself''

The gentleman looked down and smiled. He picked Charles up and placed him on the seat next to him.

''Rather a bother these seats, don't you find?''

This kind of formality in this statement gave Charles Fraggle shivers.

''Oh yes, I must admit this is my first time riding the bus''

''Is that so? Could one assume you are from out of town.''

''I am indeed. I do hope to familiarise myself with the town more. Get myself a decent haircut and outfit''

''Well I manage a bank and we are always looking for people of decency. Are you good with numbers?''

''The best where I come from. While everybody else wants to dance and dream, bunch of puppets''

''Yes, well let me bring you in for an interview. It seems you need a helping hand which is what banks are always here for.''

This is what he had always wanted. So he could not mess it up.

''That is most generous of you. Where is your bank located''

''I'm going there now, the next stop in fact’’

‘‘Oh splendid’’

The lunch bell rang and the puppeteer pulled his hand out of Charles.

He did this because it was time for him, the cast and rest of the crew to eat. The puppeteer’s job was done for the morning and he would continue to control Charles until he was old enough to retire or the show got cancelled.

It was somewhat fitting to control a puppet that would go on to live a life where he was a puppet to society, that is who the puppeteer was.

Charles was now on the same level as his puppeteer and away from the life the puppeteer dreamed of. Having worries for another day and leaving the decent life for one more fun. These dreams however were always shared.

    1. Thank you Kay! Yes, I believe Charles has a better end of his life than the Puppeteer, only thing is Charles is not real.
